Upskill "Academy Burano"

A design challenge conceived by the Upskill 4.0 team to realize the dream of Martina Vidal Venezia: Academy Burano. The goal of this collaboration between Atelier Martina Vidal, Fondazione di Venezia and Upskill was to find new ways to pass on the technique and passion of needle lace to young aspiring artisans and beyond.

To safeguard and pass on the history and tradition of Burano Lace, we thought of new formats, virtual reality, and partnerships with national and international museums and institutions.

The design solution proposed by the students of ITS FITSTIC in Bologna, supported by UPSKILL VENEZIA, was an interactive room between past and future, called "VIVI BURANO" to relive the Burano of the 1900s, amid rhythms and traditions of the past, and to imagine the island's typical lace in the future.

Having started the project in November 2022 with the presentation of Upskill 4.0 and the students' activity protracted until April 2023, we have now reached the final stage of actual implementation, with state-of-the-art technologies, virtual reality and new exhibition spaces, for a brand new "Experience Martina Vidal 2024". The team responsible for the project is led by Alice Rizzetto of Upskill 4.0 with the important contribution of Vitruvio Virtual Reality, an agency specializing in innovative digital-based projects.
